CAN I SAY IT?!

It’s 2020. A lot is way more different from what we though this year would be. A new decade, where things should have changed. A lot should have moved forward, but in all honesty, a lot just seems a little more backwards than before…

To make it a little bit more clear, I’m not talking about the big movements such as “Black Lives Matter”, “Protests Against Violence Toward Women”, “Diversification In the Media World”…All of these are gonna be some hot topics which will define 2020 for a lot of people, not to say the whole world. But one disturbing phenomenon I’m actually talking about is “Cancel Culture”…Some sort of ideology that one should get “canceled” for being, well, ignorant…

We have a lot of celebrities who we’ve seen these past few months deal with this situation, and to be honest, a lot of them fell into the rabbit hole, because others pulled them in. Plus, aren’t we tired of checking everyone down to the core, as if we, our own selves, don’t say things that others maybe would be taken aback when hearing. I do get it that there were a lot of people who did deserve their “cancellation”, some of them protected by “also celebrity” friends, but the fun facts is that this so called “culture” isn’t hitting only the rich and the famous, but it has become a part of our normal, day-to-day society, and it’s quite scary how people are so ready to “cancel” you, just because of a dumb joke or your misinformation over a topic or something

Everything is so ever changing at a speed where people find it hard to catch up, but we shouldn’t forget that sometimes it’s nice to walk with a normal paste, and just be there, be present with and for each-other. That’s what we should do: EDUCATE one another related to topics where education is fundamental, instead of being so quick to judge and dismiss.

And also, we have to listen before we arrive into a conclusion. A lot of celebrities came out with apologies for what they said when young and dumb. Tweets and jokes related to black people, the LGBTQ+ community, disabled people as well, which of course are some very emotional topics to be joking about, but as I wrote “young and dumb”. And we can’t be so quick to judge unless we see some redemption in action, not only in words, but in order for that to happen, second chances need to be given.

So prior to “canceling”, how about communicating, learning and growing.
